History and Renovation[edit | edit source]

Established in 1905, the Gazi-Stadion has been the home ground for the Stuttgarter Kickers since its inception, marking the longest continuous use of a stadium by any German club. The original wooden terrace, modeled after Arsenal's Highbury Stadium at a one-third scale, was constructed in 1913. Over the decades, the stadium underwent several renovations to meet evolving standards and requirements. Significant upgrades occurred in 1976 with the construction of a new main stand, and in 1982, the capacity was expanded to accommodate 15,000 spectators. In 1997, a comprehensive renovation introduced a modernized main stand and additional seating areas. The most recent major refurbishment took place between 2014 and 2015, resulting in a new main grandstand with 2,211 seats and the installation of a turf heating system to prevent winter match cancellations.

Features and Capacity[edit | edit source]

The Gazi-Stadion boasts a total capacity of 11,468 spectators. The main grandstand, completed in 2015, offers 2,211 seats and features a distinctive design with a wide cantilevered structure, providing unobstructed views of the pitch. The stadium's design emphasizes bringing spectators close to the action, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Ownership[edit | edit source]

Owned and operated by the City of Stuttgart, the Gazi-Stadion serves as a central hub for various sports and community events.

Multifunctional Usage[edit | edit source]

Beyond hosting football matches for the Stuttgarter Kickers, the stadium accommodates American football games for teams such as the Stuttgart Scorpions and Stuttgart Surge. Its multifunctional design allows it to serve as a venue for concerts and other large-scale events, reflecting its versatility and importance to the local community.

Home of Stuttgart Surge[edit | edit source]

Stuttgart Surge, a prominent team in the European League of Football (ELF), calls the Gazi-Stadion its home. The team has achieved notable success, including winning the Central Conference in 2023 and 2024, and reaching the Championship Game in 2023. The partnership between Stuttgart Surge and the stadium underscores the venue's significance in the European American football landscape.

Accessibility and Transportation[edit | edit source]

Accessibility[edit | edit source]

The Gazi-Stadion is designed to be accessible to all visitors, featuring facilities that accommodate individuals with disabilities, including designated seating areas and restrooms.

Public Transportation[edit | edit source]

The stadium is well-served by Stuttgart's public transportation network. The Waldau station, located in close proximity to the stadium, is accessible via the U7 light rail line, providing convenient access from the city center and other districts.
