History and Renovation[edit | edit source]

The stadium's construction began in 1990, following two years of planning, with the goal of providing SpVgg Unterhaching a venue befitting a second-division team. By 1992, the initial phase was completed, featuring a main playing field, three training pitches, a western standing tribune, and a clubhouse. The inaugural match took place on April 11, 1992, with SpVgg Unterhaching defeating TSV Schwaben Augsburg 3:0.

In 1999, after SpVgg Unterhaching's promotion to the Bundesliga, the stadium underwent significant renovations to meet the German Football Association's (DFB) requirements. These upgrades included expanding the seating capacity to over 15,000, constructing new parking facilities, and enhancing safety features. Specific improvements involved enlarging the north and east stands, adding a roof to the east stand, and creating a south-west corner to connect the stands.

Further renovations occurred between 2018 and 2019, addressing wear and tear. The east stand was refurbished and reopened in September 2018 after safety concerns had led to its temporary closure. Additionally, a hybrid grass surface was installed to improve playability during winter months. In 2020, SpVgg Unterhaching acquired ownership of the stadium from the municipality for €3.3 million.

Features and Capacity[edit | edit source]

Sportpark Unterhaching boasts a total capacity of 15,053 spectators, comprising 6,874 seats (6,111 covered) and 8,179 standing places. The playing field measures 105 by 68 meters and is equipped with a 900 lux floodlight system, ensuring optimal visibility during evening matches. A hybrid grass surface enhances the pitch's durability and performance throughout the season.

Ownership[edit | edit source]

Originally owned by the municipality of Unterhaching, the stadium's ownership transferred to SpVgg Unterhaching in 2020 following a €3.3 million acquisition.

Multifunctional Usage[edit | edit source]

Beyond serving as the home ground for SpVgg Unterhaching, Sportpark Unterhaching accommodates various sporting events. Since 2023, it has been the home venue for the Munich Ravens, an American football team competing in the European League of Football (ELF). The stadium's versatile facilities also support other events, reflecting its multifunctional design.

Home of the Munich Ravens[edit | edit source]

In February 2023, SpVgg Unterhaching and the Munich Ravens reached an agreement for the Ravens to host their ELF home games at Sportpark Unterhaching. This partnership underscores the stadium's adaptability and its role in promoting diverse sports within the region.

Accessibility and Transportation[edit | edit source]

Sportpark Unterhaching is designed to be accessible to all visitors, including those with disabilities. The stadium features designated seating areas, restrooms, and concession stands to accommodate patrons with mobility challenges.

Public Transportation[edit | edit source]

The stadium is well-served by public transportation. Visitors can take the S3 S-Bahn line towards Holzkirchen or Deisenhofen and alight at the Fasanenpark station. From there, a 700-meter walk along the path parallel to the S-Bahn tracks, followed by passing through the underpass and park, leads directly to the stadium. The S-Bahn operates at 20-minute intervals, providing convenient access for attendees.

Car and Parking[edit | edit source]

For those traveling by car, the stadium is accessible via the A8 motorway. From the south, drivers should take the Munich/Brunnthal interchange onto the A8 towards Munich and exit at Neubiberg, following signs to the stadium. From the north, take the Munich/North interchange onto the A99 towards Salzburg, then the Munich/Brunnthal interchange onto the A8 towards Munich, exiting at Neubiberg. Parking is available on gravel areas east of the stadium and a meadow northeast of the venue. Additional parking with approximately 440 spaces is located on Bundeswehr grounds east of Biberger Straße. Certain southern parking areas require special permits.

I actually enjoyed it quite a bit when I made the trip over there. It's a regular football stadium for a club that bounces between lower professional leagues and higher amateur leagues, which in Germany normally means you have good views of the whole field and solid amenities around. I did not get any food or drinks inside the stadium, so I sadly can't really speak to that.

The stadium is in the outskirts of Munich, but it's still pretty solidly reachable by public transport, even if the S-Bahn station is a fifteen minute walk away.

Can't remember prices, but one thing of notice is the home side was usually the eastern one and they changed it for some later games last season so Munich had the advantage of more shadow. Haven't heard how they will handle it season (I preferred the western part anyway)

I really liked the athmosphere and the sight in Unterhaching. Only annoying thing was that helvetic fan who blew his moronic horn for 3,5 hours non stop next to our seats.
