ELF player pronunciation guide
The ELF (European League of Football) includes players from many different countries. To help those who need it correctly pronounce the names of players, coaches, and officials, we've launched this project.
Our goal is to gather as many audio pronunciations of names as possible, recorded by someone who speaks the native language of the person whose name is being recorded.
Examples[edit | edit source]
Here is a sample file embedded in a table.
Name | Pos | Team | Language | Pronunciation | IPA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Johannes Schütz | WR | Vienna Vikings | German (Austria) | d͡ʒˈo͡ʊhænz ʃˈuːts | |
Noah Touré | WR | Vienna Vikings | German (Austria) | nˈo͡ʊʌ tʊ͡ɹɹˈe͡ɪ |
What can I do to help?[edit | edit source]
Considering there are over 60 players per team, plus coaches and officials, this amounts to a tremendous number of names. This project is only possible with the help of the community. So, if you'd like to help us advance this initiative, please get in touch!

How to record a mp3 using Windows 10/11[edit | edit source]
Recording an mp3 file with Windows 10/11 is possible without installing additional software. Here's how:
Settings[edit | edit source]
- Invoke Windows Start menu, type "voice" or "recorder" in the search field and click to open Voice Recorder app under best match result.
- You can find the settings on the right-hand side by clicking on the 3 dots
- Click the Recording format setting - choose MP3
- Click Audio quality - choose Best
Start recording[edit | edit source]
At the bottom left of the app, you can select which microphone you would like to use
- Click the Record button ("Ctrl + R")
- Optional: Click the Pause button ("Alt + P" or "Space key") to stop the recording without separating the track to keep everything in one file
- Click the Stop button ("Escape" or "Enter key") to finish the recording
Playback audio[edit | edit source]
- Choose the file from the left pane
- Click the Play button ("Space key")
Rename audio[edit | edit source]
If you want to make more than one recording in a row, it is important to name the individual recordings so that you still know which MP3 was for which name.
- Please always use this format: FirstnameLastname.mp3
[edit | edit source]
After your recording is done, it still has to reach us, use the "show in folder" option.
- Right-click the file and choose show in folder
- Now you can send us the recording!
Tips on speaking/recording technique[edit | edit source]
Always remember, the people listening to a file do not know how to pronounce the name correctly.
Therefore, follow these tips to ensure a high quality recording
- Sit upright: Your posture significantly impacts voice quality.
- Neutral accent: Try to minimize local accents to ensure clarity for a wider audience.
- Mind your breathing: Avoid recording breaths. Use the pause function if you're unsure.
- Eliminate background noise: Ensure your recording environment is quiet.
- Brief pause at the start: Begin your recording with about half a second of silence.
- Speak clearly and slowly: Pronounce first names distinctly. Don't drop letters that would normally be pronounced.
- Pause between first names: If there are multiple first names without a hyphen, leave a small gap between them.
- Pause before the surname: After saying the first name(s), pause briefly before pronouncing the last name.
