Austria
Austria is a landlocked country in Central Europe with a population of around 9 Million. The capital Vienna has a population of around 2 Million. Austria bordered by Germany to the northwest, the Czech Republic to the north, Slovakia to the northeast, Hungary to the east, Slovenia and Italy to the south, and Switzerland and Liechtenstein to the west.
In 1979, the Vienna Ramblocks were founded as the first American Football club in Austria. The Austrian Football League was played in 1984 for the first time. Austrian teams have won the Eurobowl for combined eight times. The Austrian national team won the European championship for the first time im 2023.
European League of Football teams[edit | edit source]
The first rumors about Austrian teams joining the league emerged during the 2021 season. On September 12, 2021 the Vienna Vikings announced their interest in joining the ELF at a press conference. The Vikings and their national rivals Raiders Tirol confirmed their entry into the league ahead of the first ELF championship game.
