Generali Arena
The Generali Arena is a football stadium located in Vienna, Austria. It serves as the home stadium of FK Austria Wien and is one of the most modern football venues in the country. The stadium is situated in the 10th district (Favoriten) and has undergone several renovations to meet international standards.

History and Renovation[edit | edit source]
The stadium was originally opened in 1925 under the name Franz Horr Stadium. Over the decades, it has undergone multiple expansions and modernization efforts to improve facilities for both players and spectators. The most recent major renovation took place between 2016 and 2018, transforming the venue into a state-of-the-art football stadium with enhanced seating capacity and modern infrastructure.
Features and Capacity[edit | edit source]
The Generali Arena has a seating capacity of approximately 17,500 spectators. It features covered seating areas, VIP sections, and modern hospitality facilities. The pitch is equipped with an advanced drainage system and high-quality turf to ensure optimal playing conditions. The stadium also includes training facilities and administrative offices for FK Austria Wien.
Ownership Changes[edit | edit source]
In March 2025, the City of Vienna acquired the Generali Arena from FK Austria Wien for €39.4 million. Despite the change in ownership, FK Austria Wien continues to manage and operate the stadium, ensuring its primary function as the club's home ground. The city retains oversight through its sports department, MA51. [1]
Multifunctional Usage[edit | edit source]
The acquisition aims to promote the multifunctional use of the stadium, explicitly including American football. This initiative addresses past challenges related to hosting American football events at the venue, ensuring that such sports can be accommodated more frequently in the future.
Home of the Vienna Vikings[edit | edit source]
Since 2022, the Generali Arena has also been the home stadium of the Vienna Vikings, a team competing in the European League of Football (ELF). The stadium provides an excellent environment for American football games, with a great atmosphere and high-quality facilities for players and fans alike.
The Vikings have played 11 home games at the Generali Arena so far, losing only one of them.
Accessibility and Transportation[edit | edit source]
Accessibility[edit | edit source]
The Generali Arena is designed to be fully accessible for individuals with disabilities. The stadium provides several wheelchair spaces and ensures barrier-free entry. Visitors with disabilities are entitled to free tickets upon presenting a federal social ID card, which can be obtained at the fan shop or ticket counters on match days. Specially designated restrooms and accessible seating areas enhance the experience for all attendees.
Public Transportation[edit | edit source]
The Generali Arena is well connected to Vienna’s public transportation network. The nearest major transit hub is Reumannplatz (U1 metro line), from which visitors can take tram line 6 or 11 to the Geiselbergstraße or Absberggasse stops, both within walking distance of the stadium.
Additionally, bus line 15A serves the nearby Troststraße/Neilreichgasse stop, offering another convenient option.
On match days, Austria Wien often collaborates with the Wiener Linien to provide increased tram and bus frequency for smoother access.
Car and Parking[edit | edit source]
For those arriving by car, the stadium offers limited parking spaces nearby. However, due to high demand on match days, using public transport is strongly recommended. There are also Park & Ride facilities in Vienna, such as Oberlaa (U1) or Erdberg (U3), which provide affordable parking with direct metro connections to Reumannplatz.
Bike racks are available for cyclists near the stadium entrance.

Really enjoyed the game day experience there. Easily accessible, getting in and out was easy, enough toilets for men, while there was some struggle for women.
The hotdogs been really underwhelming and haven't been that cheap at all, but the sellers are pretty cool, even got a free beer. I'm not entirely sure on the prices, but nothing outrageous for Vienna.
The atmosphere is not as laid back as Hohe Warte, but the crowd was loud and enthusiastic. They struggled with the scoreboard but the view on the match is great. I don't know about the parking situation as I only go there by metro, but the connection is really good.
