The Paris Musketeers are an American football team based in Paris, France, that plays in the European League of Football (ELF).

History[edit | edit source]

Paris was announced on September 23, 2022 as the final new location for the 2023 season, alongside Prague. The name and logo of the new franchise were announced on January 23, 2023. Initially, the franchise operated under the name Paris Saints until the name change to Paris Musketeers was announced on February 27, 2023.

On November 10, 2022, the team introduced its first two players, Mamadou Sy and Mamadou Doumbouya, both of whom had started playing football in Paris. On November 14, the team added its first U.S. player, Kyle Sweet. Sweet played for the Barcelona Dragons in 2022. He led the league in those three categories with 1561 yards and 17 touchdowns on 115 passes and was named Offensive Player of the Year. In Paris, as in Barcelona, he played with Zach Edwards. The quarterback led the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns in 2022 and was MVP of the week twice.

On March 13, 2023, it was announced that the Stade Jean-Bouin would become the Musketeers' playing venue

Seasons[edit | edit source]

2025 Season[edit | edit source]

Head Coach Mattioli was extended early for the 2025 season. However, he resigned in November 2024 to return to the USA.[1] [2]

His successor as HC was announced on January 17, 2024. The former NFL head coach (Raiders, Washington, etc.) Jack del Rio will take over the position. [3]

2024 Season[edit | edit source]

In the 2023/24 offseason, the Musketeers were able to bring in more French players from other ELF teams. Among others, they signed ELF Defensive Player of the Year Macรฉo Beard from the Helvetic Guards and All Star Anthony Mahoungou from the ELF champion Rhein Fire. Due to the 2024 Summer Olympics, the Musketeers had to play all six home games in the first six weeks - the home Stade Jean-Bouin serves as the "German House" during the Olympics. The Musketeers recorded ten wins in the regular season. Their only two defeats came against the champions Rhein Fire.

Paris thus entered the playoffs in second place in the Western Conference. They had home court in the wild card round, but the game against the Munich Ravens had to be played in Valenciennes in northern France due to the 2024 Summer Paralympics taking place in Paris at the same time. With a narrow 40:37 victory, the Musketeers advanced to the semi-finals, where the Vienna Vikings awaited. They were clearly defeated 31:47 in Vienna.

2023 Season[edit | edit source]

The Musketeers won their first game on June 3, 2023 at the Cologne Centurions with 24:17. In their first home game, however, they lost 20:29 to the Stuttgart Surge. This was followed by two more defeats and the first home win against the Hamburg Sea Devils in week 5. The team slowly found its feet and was able to keep the game against the Frankfurt Galaxy in week 8 open until shortly before the end of the game, losing 21:23 with a field goal four seconds before the end. The Parisians were able to win the last four games clearly. They ended up with six wins and six defeats and finished the season in third place in the Western Conference, missing out on the play-offs.

Stadiums[edit | edit source]

The Stade Jean-Bouin was used for the 2024 home games. It's a multi-purpose stadium in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. The 19,904 capacity facility is located across the street from the much larger Parc des Princes, and is used mostly for rugby union and association football matches. It is the home stadium of Stade Franรงais and FC Versailles.

The Musketeers had to move to the Stade Robert Bobin for the 2025 season. The Stade Robert-Bobin is a soccer stadium with athletics facilities in the municipality of Bondoufle in the Essonne department in รŽle-de-France, 27 kilometers south of Paris. The stadium seats 18,850 spectators and is currently used by the FC Fleury women's soccer team.
