The Republic of Serbia, is a landlocked country in Southeast Central Europe. It borders Hungary to the north, Romania to the northeast, Bulgaria to the southeast, North Macedonia to the south, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the west, and Montenegro to the southwest. Serbia claims a border with Albania through the disputed territory of Kosovo. Serbia has about 6.6 million inhabitants. Its capital Belgrade is also the largest city.
In 2002 The Sirmium Legionaries were founded as first American Football team in Serbia.[1] In 2004 five teams played the first Serbian championship and in 2005 the Serbian national team played the first game. Serbian teams started the Southeast European League of American Football (SELAF, today Central European Football League, CELF), and sparked the flame of American Football in the Balkan region.[1] Today over 30 teams play football in Serbia. The national team was ranked eight in the European championship 2023
